Battling Swindon went down to a narrow defeat as they were run ragged by two-goal Darren Beckford.
Lee Peacock equalised a minute after half-time in a game where they lacked any cutting edge but Leeds were not to be denied the three points for ex-Town boss Dennis Wise.
Town made a bright start but Peter Breszovan had to be alert to stop Tresor Kandol's far post header.
Craig Easton went close as Town tried to play expansive football but they were giving Kandol too much room in the area and he headed staright at Bresovan after 14 minutes.
The Slovak was called into action again soon after, superbly tipping Johnny Hanson's shot over the bar with Jamie Clapham's follow-up being blocked on the line by Peacock.
Hansey Aljofree's misdirected clearance then had Bresovan scarambling as Leeds started to dominate.
Simon Cox shot wide when he had a rare sight oif goal but the hosts took the lead just after the half hour.
Aljofree handled in the area and Beckford rammed home the spot kick to give the hosts a half-time advantage.
Within a minute of the restart Swindon equalised when Cox broke down the right and squared the ball for Peacock to bury from eight yards.
But the parity was short-lived when on the hour Beckford pounced on to Kandol's knockdown and lash the ball past Bresovan from ten yards.
Town were beginning tp lose their discipline with Christian Roberts, Sofi Zouboube, Cox and Michael Pook all seeing yellow.
Barry Corr was off target with a header as Swindon's challenge faltered but Cox thought he had levelled late on as he followed up after Corr's header was saved. But he was denied by a linesman's flag.
