ECSTATIC John Brown saluted his Swindon players after they came from two tries down to thrash hosts Beaconsfield 42-12 in Southern Counties North, writes GARETH MOORHOUSE.
The Buckinghamshire outfit raced into a 12-0 early in the first half and Brown feared another hiding at the hands of Swindon's bogey side.
Led by some ferocious tackling from skipper Paul Daniels and some intelligent kicking from fly half Adam Westall, Swindon mounted a stunning comeback.
Paul Wakefield grabbed the first of his two tries when he touched down following a catch and drive from a line-out 35 metres out.
From that moment on it was all Swindon, with Wakefield, Scott Chapman, Richard Lowe and Nuno Punto Dias all crossing the whitewash.
The huge win saw Swindon leapfrog Beaconsfield into third place, and Brown was understandably thrilled with his team's display.
He said: "Beaconsfield are quite a strong side, especially at home, so to go there and win by such a big margin is very pleasing.
"They have been a bit of a bogey side for us of late so that was another reason I was delighted to get the win.
"We had about five of our regular first team missing on Saturday but we still put in a strong performance.
"Adam Westall's kicking from hand was excellent, but the pick of the bunch was Paul Daniels.
"He led from the front with some of his tackles.
"To come back from 12-0 down to win so emphatically was great. In the last few minutes we looked like we could score at will."
Swindon return to action on Saturday when they host Witney at Greenbridge Road, looking to cement their position in third place.
