Big-hitting Bennett takes Warminster apart

WARMINSTER suffered defeat at the hands of Bristol West Indians twice in a weekend, despite racking up two good totals.

Carl Clarke's side lost to their opponents in Premier Two on Saturday and then again in the National Knockout Cup on Sunday.

Clarke top scored in Warminster's innings on Saturday with 52 and helped by several other contributions and 50 extras, Warminster ended with 218.

But Clarke's side were undone by a brilliant batting performance from Shawn Bennett and Jamie Trenchfield.

Bennett smashed 113 off 114 balls and Trenchfield hit 65 from 95 deliveries as West Indians sealed victory with 10 overs to play.

Clarke said: "I think we lacked penetration and didn't bowl in the right areas.

"We bowled three or four balls and then gave them a free hit. It's just a case of getting bowlers to bowl tight lines.

"Apart from me, all our bowlers are pretty much the same - we just didn't have any options.

"But we got 218 against one of the better bowling attacks in the league.

"I'm positive that in the batting side we can get big scores, especially at home where it's batting paradise."

On Sunday Warminster were again made to suffer by Bennett as he scored 127 of the West Indians' 292 total.

Warminster managed an impressive 270 but fell just short of the home side's target.
