BATTING first at home to Trowbridge B in their Division Six match in the Wiltshire League, Highworth 2nds owed much to the positive batting of Gavin Blundell (30) and Mark Thatcher (35) and to some below-par fielding and catching from their visitors.
Veteran Stephen Chalke (one for 22 off 12 overs) maintained early control, and Paul Wilson took six for 36 with intelligent in-swing to limit Highworth to 194.
But it soon became clear that this was a winning total as the home team's bowlers set to work.
With sustained accuracy and hostility Sean Gibson (five for 27 off 12) and Mark Thatcher (one for 27 off 12) destroyed the Trowbridge top order.
Fourteen-year-old Tom Weaver (33 not out) played pluckily to take the total to 83, but his effort could not disguise the overall superiority of the Highworth side.
