SWINDON’S Emma Breen helped the University of Montevallo team to 13th spot at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by Tusculum College.

Freshman Breen, a member at Marlborough, is on a four-year golfing scholarship across the pond, came in 50th with a two-round score of 166, finishing second highest in her Falcons team.

The next tournament of the spring schedule will see the Falcons compete in the Ann Rhodes Shootout, hosted by Birmingham Southern College on February 22-23.

  • WRAG Barn’s annual meeting will now take place tomorrow (3pm), with the drive-in of new club captain Ian Pearson, which was delayed by the bad weather, now taking place on February 22 at 1.45pm.

Outgoing club captain Rod Grinsted marked the end of his stint by handing over a cheque to the Sobel House Hospice Charity at his last supper.

  • Lee Murby and Mark Sheldon won round 10 of Carswell’s Winter League.

The pair’s 43 points was enough to defeat Bob Lightfoot and Dan Goodchild on countback.

In the February stableford held in tricky conditions, Steve MacMahon was the winner with 38 points.

  • MORE teams are being sought to play in the Swindon Putting League, which is now more than 70 years old.

Formally known as the GWRSA Putting League and based at the old British Rail Sports ground in Shrivenham Road, the league has been running since 1935 and once boasted around 32 teams.

Now based at the Premier Club in Ermin Street, two putting greens have been constructed, each consisting of 18 par two holes and to date, nine teams are entered.

However, the league is desperately seeking new teams, with only a putter and ball needed.

Teams consist of six players, plus reserves, with all matches played on weekday evenings from 7.15pm and each match taking around an hour.

The two putting greens are the relatively flat Plain course and the Bunker course which has more gradients.

The season runs from April to August and consists of league games, men’s and ladies singles knockout, mixed doubles and pairs knockout and team knockout.

Fixtures, where possible, are played on whichever evening suits your team.

The league is open to all players aged 12 years and over.
