THE 2010 Grand Prix dream of Swindon Robins’ Jurica Pavlic lives on after Saturday’s qualifying semi finals - but new Blunsdon hero Matej Zagar must wait another year.

Pavlic, currently suspended from riding for Swindon for 28 days, romped to victory in Saturday’s meeting in Daugavpils, Latvia, beating former Grand Prix regular Jaroslaw Hampel, of Poland, in a race-off for top spot after both riders had finished on 12 points.

2009 Grand Prix rider Fredrik Lindgren was third behind them, winning a run-off against Maksim Bogdavovs for third place.

The other four qualifiers included Adrian Miedzinski, the Robins asset widely tipped to replace Pavlic if the Croatian cannot resume his Swindon riding duties, Chris Holder, Piotr Protasiewicz and Martin Smolinski, but Swindon asset Morten Risager missed out.

Zagar was disappointed in the other semi in Motala, Sweden.

He carded just five points to finish well off the pace as Denmark’s Kenneth Bjerre won on 14 points, with Poland’s Grzegorz Walasek second on 13 and Great Britain’s Chris Harris fifth on nine.

The other qualifiers for the final included former Swindon rider Jonas Davidsson.

Other surprise names to miss out alongside Zagar were Swedish GP wild-card Antonio Lindback and former GP riders Matej Zagar and Jesper B Monberg.

n SWINDON skipper Leigh Adams and new hero Zagar will battle against each other in the opening rounds of the Speedway World Cup next week.

Adams captains Australia in the second semi final at Peterborough, where Great Britain, Poland and Slovenia, skippered by Zagar, will form the opposition next Monday (July 13).

Russia, Denmark, Sweden and the Czech Republic contest the opening semi in Vojens, Denmark, on Saturday
