JUDO: Silver for Parsons

JASON Parsons had to settle for silver despite a storming performance at the Welsh Open Championships on Sunday.

The Devizes Judo Club member managed five straight Ippon wins as he raced through to the U73 kgs category final.

His opponent for the final was a Russian competitor, currently training at the Budokwai in Central London.

A fascinating contest ensued which remained level after five minutes The contest then went into the golden score three-minute period.

With Parsons looking in good shape, his opponent pulled out an Ippon throw of his own to steal the gold medal.

Several other Devizes club members were also in action at the weekend.

They travelled eastwards to Crawley to compete in the South of England Orange Belt and under event.

Both Amy Oram and Elliot Burbidge won silver medals in the U32 kilos and U38 kilos sections respectively.

Also competing but without medal success were Joseph Burbidge and Sam Emery.
