Devizes D 22 Wessex B 10
DEVIZES started the game positively with quick goals in the first few minutes from GA Alice Bowerbank and GS Steph Bridewell and there was outstanding play around the semi-circle by Olivia Wood and Laura Stephenson.
Throughout the second quarter Devizes defence of Trish Stephenson and Charlie Philpott kept Wessex to only two goals.
This continued into the third quarter where there was great support by WD Tor Porter at either end which helped make Devizes game become more controlled.
In the final quarter Devizes began to extend their lead further, though there were some excellent interceptions by the opposition as well as Devizes substitute Ayesha Holland.
Devizes player of the match was Steph Bridewell.
Holt C 15 Westbury B 30
THE first quarter saw Holt put instantly on the back foot, the lack of training definitely showing.
The defence in the circle needed to be tighter against handy Westbury scorers and the centre court and attacking play also needed attention.
Holt made changes to their defence at half time at centre court and shooting which seemed to do the trick as they won the third quarter. A couple more changes to the defence were made in the final quarter but unfortunately Holt could not keep up the pressure, despite an impressive comeback from 17-3 down.
Player of the match for Holt was GS/GA Angela Eade
Holt B 12 Holt A 30
THIS was a rematch in which both teams had a point to prove.
The A team had squeezed a victory from the previous fixture and wanted to extend the goal difference this time around.
The B team’s centre court play was fluid and well paced, but Holt A were able to convert more of their chances and took the lead by the end of the first quarter, extending it by the half time whistle.
Holt B came out in the third quarter with all cylinders firing, restricting the A team’s shots on goal with the help of Kirsty Leather’s reactions in defence.
The A team remained steady in the final quarter, playing at their own pace to keep feeding the ball into the shooters, Rebecca Webster managing her best shooting performance so far this season.
Players of the match were Clare Draper (Holt B) and Emma Glover (Holt A)
BMT 41 TNC 9
FINE interceptions from Ali Dorey and Kat Mills kept TNC away from the shooting quarter as Charlie Hayes and Karla Uys shot well to give BMT a 12-2 first-quarter lead.
A loss of rhythm in the secnd quarter allowed TNC a few more chances to make the score 23-7, but BAC improved their defence again, the introduction of Edi Hayward and Charlie Johnson helped them into a 33-8 lead.
And BMT's domination continued into the final quarter as they losed out a 41-9 success.
BMT's Player of the match was centre Charis Saunders.
Wessex Blades 22 Westbury A 35
BLADES have found the transition into the Premier Division tough this season and, although all matches have been fiercely contested, the results have rarely gone in Blades favour.
This match was key as Blades had beaten Westbury at the start of the season and Westbury were aposition lower in the league table.
Blades took a while to settle in the first quarter and found themselves six goals behind with Westbury looking the more confident team.
At the break Jane Tomkinson, the coach, made some key changes and, although still behind, Blades were able to match Westbury’s scoring rate in both the second and third quarters to be 24-18 down going into the final period.
Blades worked hard and began to find some of the consistency and control of passing and defending necessary to reduce the deficit.
But Westbury's shooters found the ability to score from any position in the circle and they were able to pull away.
Sharon Loader was voted player of the match.
Wessex Blades Sabres 10 Devizes D 22
AFTER starting well in a new division, Sabres lost against determined Devizes team.
Although missing several key players, Sabres worked hard and had strong defence from GK Penny Dilley, GD Jo Jo Alun-Jones, and Caroline Young at WD.
But attacking was poor, with many passes given away to the opposition, giving Devizes an early 10-2 lead.
During the second and third quarters, Sabres improved their attacking through strong teamwork and accurate shooting from GS Alex Alun-Jones, GA Alice Baker and WA Glenda Dickson.
However, several elementary mistakes meant Devizes led 18-7 at the end of the third.
Going into the last quarter, Sabres had a positive attitude.
Strong centre court play from WA Livi Jacob and C Victoria Scudamore helped transport the ball to the attacking third, Alice Baker being player of the match.
Devizes B 17 Devizes A 49
THE return match for the top two Devizes teams saw a very focussed A team take control of the game from the outset.
Strong attacking play into the circle created lots of shooting opportunities for the A’s with a high percentage being converted.
Despite the scoreline, the B’s put up a strong challenge and had plenty of the ball, but the A team proved too strong making plenty of interceptions and breaking down the B’s game.
An outstanding match in a couple of positions gave Lucy Baross a well deserved player of the match for the Bs, Gemma Featonby of the A’s earning the same accolade.
