West Wilts took the initial pushback and immediately put pressure on the Chippenham defence.
They had several chances to open the scoring but were thwarted by the inform Chippenham goalkeeper, Johnny Middleton.
Chippenham gradually took control of the game, attacking on the left and right flanks but they too were denied by a solid Wilts West defence.
The Chippenham midfield of Pete McAnaw, James Hamilton and Simon Walker were dominant and fed the ball constantly to the Chippenham forwards but the West Wilts defence remained strong.
Chippenham were awarded a short corner after a West Wilts stopped the ball with his foot.
This was put in by Matt Gale, stopped by Henry Price and struck goalwards by McAnaw.
This was stopped by the goalkeeper but the ball was not cleared and Guy Barrett put away the loose ball for the opening goal.
Chippenham were now in control and pressurising the West Wilts defence. They won a short corner and the initial strike hit Middleton but was deflected into the goal for the equaliser. 1-1 at the half-time break.
The second half saw much of the same attacking displays from both sides. Another short corner to Chippenham saw them regain the lead with Barrett grabbing his second goal of the match.
Chippenham maintained the pressure but gave the ball away. Some sloppy marking gave West Wilts a great chance to level again but their defence managed to clear the danger.
A ball from Rich Borman to McAnaw opened up the West Wilts defence and a well-timed pass from McAnaw to Barrett saw a first time shot fly inches over the crossbar.
This proved to be Chippenham’s last chance to put the game out of the reach of West Wilts and their defensive line of Lloyd, Price, Heartford and Green held out for the remainder of the half.
This was a hard-fought but deserved victory for Chippenham and next weekend sees them host a top of the table clash with Marlborough ‘A’ who are only two points adrift. Another victory for the home side could see a change in the top spot.
