SWINDON and District Premier League leaders Queensfield look on course for the double after booking their spot in the final of the Adver Cup with an emphatic 4-1 win over Crumpled Horn.
A double from the impressive Adam Jack and singles from Danny Hiscocks and Luke Embling did the damage.
Joining them in the final are Old Town Wanderers, who squeezed past VBA Rangers in controversial fashion.
The game was a tense affair with neither side imposing themselves. Both goalkeepers performed well and kept the game goal-less during normal time.
In extra time, a well-worked move by VBA resulted in a penalty which Dave Pritchard took only for the keeper to save, but Pritchard pounced on the rebound, stroking home to give Rangers the lead.
Old Town pressed forward trying to level the game, but the defensive line of Rangers repelled attack after attack.
With seconds remaining, a hopeful ball was lobbed into the VBA box and was ushered out for what appeared to be a goal kick, only for the referee to point to the penalty spot, much to the surprise of all, even the Old Town Wanderers players.
Dean O’Hagan stepped up and slotted the penalty in off the bar to level the game.
With the stuffing knocked out of them, VBA missed two of their penalties.
They could then only watch helplessly as Dave Rendle scuffed home his side’s fourth into the net as Old Town took the tie.
Moonrakers will defend the George Thomas Cup after beating Lower Stratton 2-1 in their semi- final. Shane Dodson had equalised late in the second half to take the tie to extra time, where a Wayne Petrie thunderbolt handed the Moonies their ticket to the final.
In Division One, a fine display by Spectrum give them a 5-2 win away to Ramsbury. Spectrum took an early lead thanks to Karl Pike, only for the homeside to equalise.
Pike added a second to retake the lead before Craig Kelly cemented the advantage and with a few minutes left in the first half, Pike added his third and fourth of the day.
The second half was dominated by Ramsbury and but for the heroics of goalkeeper Stuart Hutfield, they could have got back into the game.
