MARLBOROUGH fought back well from a two-goal deficit before succumbing to three second-half strikes in their West Clubs’ North Division.
Hereford took a 2-0 lead in the first half, but the home fightback started when on of their youngest players, 15-year-old Phoebe Clarke picked up the ball on the right and showed good skills to score.
Further solid attacking gave Marlborough a penalty corner which Alex Sharpe converted to level before the interval.
After the break, there was not much to choose between the teams, but despite their attacking play forcing more penalty corners, Marlborough could not convert and Hereford added three goals.
Marlborough, who hosted Devizes last night, are away at Wootton Bassett on Saturday (11.30am).
