DEVIZES slipped back to second-from-bottom after defeat at Chard, who leapfrogged them in the table.
Paul Thompson and Kevin Whitbread’s men had won three of their previous five before Saturday’s trip to Bridport, which ended in a 4-0 reverse.
And goals from Jon Hurford and Alex Wheatley in the first half at Chard, who were watched by incoming boss Glyn Shaw, condemned them to a 22nd league defeat of the campaign.
Hurford scored from a speculative free kick before beginning the move that allowed Wheatley to finish from just inside the area.
Sam Charles’ hat-trick for Bridport did the damage in Town’s weekend defeat.
Devizes’ run of five away games on the trot comes to an end against Almondsbury UWE on Saturday.
