Chippenham Town scored three times in the first-half as they cruised to a 3-0 win over Bedford Town on Saturday.
The Bluebirds stole into the lead after just seven minutes when Ross Adams floated a ball to the feet of Lewis Powell in the Bedford area.
The striker swivelled and his shot took a slight deflection before nestling in the side netting, leaving keeper Mike Armitt grounded to the spot.
The visitors had a good chance to equalise shortly after when Graham Clark was put clean through but Chippenham’s Ian Gill was quick off his line to win the ball from the onrushing Bedford midfielder.
On 13 minutes, Adie Ming’s side doubled their lead.
Captain Adams hit a long free-kick towards striker Alan Griffin, who controlled the ball on his chest before turning and stroking the ball past Armitt.
The Bluebirds continued to press and Allison went close when he met Ashley Williams’ cross but the midfielder’s point-blank effort was saved.
Just before half-time, Chippenham grabbed a third.
Luke Gullick picked up the ball just outside the Bedford area and drove towards goal, beating three defenders.
The winger shifted the ball past the goalkeeper and swept a shot into the empty net to make it 3-0.
Early in the second-period, Bedford could have pulled a goal back.
Defender Stuart Wall rose highest from a corner and nodded the ball down into the path of substitute Junior McDougald, who somehow scooped his shot over from just a few yards out.
Striker Ian Draycott tested Gill in the Chippenham goal before Gullick saw a shot go into the side netting at the other end.
Substitute Danny Wring created space in the area with a weaving run but his shot at the near post was saved.
Midway through the half, Wring floated a corner onto the head of the unmarked Greg Tindle, but the defender couldn’t keep his effort down.
Full-back Adams then had two chances to get his name on the scoresheet.
First he struck the bar with a header from Wring’s corner before he was found in space on the right-hand side and unleashed a powerful shot that Armitt could only tip over.
As Chippenham continued to pepper their opponents’ goal, substitute Jon Davies saw a curling left-footer saved before Bedford’s frustration boiled over.
Winger Craig Daniel was shown red for kicking out off-the-ball, leaving his side to finish with ten men.
However, both sides were a man down moments later when Tindle had to leave the field with a knock, with the Bluebirds having used all their substitutions.
Alex Kite had the ball in the net in the dying moments but his header was ruled out for an infringement in the box and Mings’ men were left to settle for the lead they built in the first-half.
Chippenham are now two points behind fifth-placed Brackley Town, with two games in hand on their Northamptonshire rivals.
