NORTH WILTS & DISTRICT YOUTH & MINOR LEAGUE: Shock of the day in the under 18 league cup quarter-finals saw Swindon Badgers inflict only the second defeat of the season on Stratton Juniors, 3-2 the final score.

Another shock looked on the cards at Ballards Ash as Wootton Bassett Town trailed 2-0 against bottom of the table Cirencester Town with 10 minutes to play, Chris Godwin and Will Jones having put the visitors in front.

Tim Gleed gave Bassett hope of forcing extra time with a well-struck shot and then a last-minute goal from Gareth Jones saved Bassett's blushes.

Further goals in extra time from Gleed and Dan Lowes gave Bassett a somewhat fortunate win.

League leaders Chippenham Wanderers made no mistake away at Chalford, making it safely through to the last four with a 10-2 victory.

Goals from Darren Rudman, Liam Edmondson, Luke Coxhead and Craig Taylor ensured North Swindon Panthers made it into the semi-final courtesy of a 4-1 home win over Blunsdon Colts.

Under 16

Leaders Wroughton A were made to work hard for their latest win at home against Shaw.

The visitors held the league leaders at 2-2 going into the closing stages of the game, but four late goals gave a somewhat flattering score to Wroughton, who certainly knew they had been in a game.

On target for Wroughton were Paul Bains, Sean Bailey, Jack Gannon, Eliott Hill, Byron Shepherd and Ross Garcia.

Stratton Juniors remain not on the heels of Wroughton following their 14th consecutive league win, two goals from Bradley Gray and one for Dave Glover securing the points at home against Croft Juniors.

Wootton Bassett Town moved into third spot after two wins over the weekend. On Saturday they eventually ran out comfortable 11-1 winners over Wroughton C but the score very much flattered the home side as it was some 25 minutes into the game before they conceded a goal, Phil Tearle hitting a stunning strike into the top corner of the net.

The same player made it 2-0 before Sam Higginbottom scored a goal almost identical to the first to make it 3-0 at the break. Higginbottom then extended Bassett's lead before Reece Miller pulled a goal back for Wroughton.

Two further goals from Tearle, a hat-trick from substitute Alex Pritchard plus goals from Tom Marchment and Aaron Stevens completed the scoring.

This was followed by a 5-2 away victory at Walcot Wanderers. Teale put Bassett in front only to see Jack Lunsdon equalise. Josh Dimond restored the lead with an overhead kick following a corner and two goals from Stevens along with one for Marchment put Bassett 5-1 in front.

However, Walcot completed the scoring when Rob Lockyer hit a late consolation goal.

Purton remain in joint fourth place after a 3-2 home win over Greenmeadow, two goals for Daryl Charman, recently signed from Shaw U15's, and one for Matthew Godsell in this match.

The mid-table battle between Juventus Juniors and Wroughton B ended 1-1. Jonathan Guy had put Juventus in front but Ben Curtis ensured a share of the points with a last-minute equaliser.

Hat-tricks from Bobby Amos and Tom Elliott plus further goals from Adam Drury, Danny Greenfield, Richard Crocker (2), Josh Paddon and Martin Ayres gave Ferndale Rodbourne a comfprtable 12-0 away win at Wroughton C.

Highworth Juniors moved level on points with Croft, Walcot and Lydiard Youth following a fine 2-1 win away at Lydiard, Billy Hammond and James Rogers scoring for Highworth, Peter Hambidge for Lydiard.

Under 15 League Cup

The two big quarter-final ties saw league leaders AFC Barbury meet Swindon Soccer Skills and Stratton Juniors play Brunel Boys.

Soccer Skills gained revenge for a 5-1 league defeat back in November with a 3-1 away win, Franklin scoring the consolation goal for Barbury.

Goals from Lewis Chatwin and Jamie Prictor gave unbeaten Stratton a 2-0 win and a cup semi-final place.

Two goals from David Bray were enough to see Westlea Wanderers home against Croft Juniors for whom Sam Taplin scored.

Richard Tremblen was the star of the show for Highwroth Juniors in the final quarter-final tie, bagging a double hat-trick, Tom Gardner also scoring two in an 8-0 home win over Wootton Bassett Town.

Under 15

Shaw and Shrivenham were involved in a nine-goal contest at Chestnut Springs with Shaw eventually edging it by the odd goal.

Shaw's scorers were Jack Duckers (2), Kyle Moulden, Elliott Corp and Lewis Brown, Oliver Baily (2), John Gosling and Elliott Cord replying for Shrivenham. The win lifted Shaw into 6th spot.

Fairford moved above Shrivenham in the table after a 6-2 home win over Ferndale Rodbourne, Daniel Bond and Richard Sheppard with the Ferndale goals.

Under 14 Division 1

Bemerton Heath Harlequins went a long way towards retaining their league title with a 5-2 home win over previous leaders Lydiard Youth, moving above Lydiard in the process.

Sam Aldridge bagged a hat-trick and there was one apiece for Josh Carter and Dan Wrixson. Rob Jefferies and Will Greer replied for Lydiard.

Third-placed Fairford lost ground when they were held to a 4-4 draw at home by Shaw, Todd Hathaway (2), James Skinner and Daniel Lee scoring for Fairford.

Ferndale Rodbourne A made up ground with a 5-1 away win at Malmesbury, for whom Kristian Trimble scored.

Old Town United had goals from Connor Joyce and Luke Robinson to thank for their 2-1 success at home against Croft Juniors.

Biggest winners on the day in the division were Stratton Juniors A who hit seven without reply at Liden. Ethan Delaney led the way with four goals, Matthew Leonard hit a brace and Scott Jefferies added the seventh.

Under 14 Division 2

Two goals apiece from Alex Green and Josh Harper kept Purton at the head of the table as they beat Blunsdon Colts 4-2.

Brunel Boys moved up into second spot after a 9-0 demolition of Highworth Juniors. Star of the show was James Clifford with four, taking his seasons tally to 29 in the process. Tom Tough bagged a brace and James Little, Jamie Carpenter and Stephen Hughes also scored.

Swindon Soccer Skills lost ground when they went down by the odd goal in 11 at Ferndale Rodbourne B.

On target for Soccer Skills were Tom Melton-Ruddock with a hat-trick and Oumar Balde with two.

Ramsbury had a welcome 3-1 home success over Stratton Juniors B and improving Wootton Bassett Town made it three wins in four games with a narrow 2-1 success at Sherston, Will Barras with the Sherston goal.

Top scorers of the weekend were Shrivenham & Watchfield, who hit 15 without reply against a spirited Stratton Youth side. Daniel Perrott (4), Simon Jessett (3), Adam Clarke (3), Jake Kimberley (3) and Joseph Thompson (2) got the Shrivenham goals.

Under 13 League Cup

There were no real surprises in the quarter-finals of the cup.

Stratton Juniors B had a comfortable passage into the last four against second division side, Old Town United, hitting 12 without reply. Nathan Richens and Jeremy Mrash both fired hat-tricks, Jordan O'Reilly and Ben Phillips both bagged a brace and Jamie Sheals and Jake Henwood completed the scoring.

Unbeaten Ferndale Rodbourne are also safely through to the last four, winning 9-1 at Brunel Boys. On target for Ferndale were Josh Parsons (3), Vince Tapster (2), Matthew Beauchamp, Ryan Selby, Kyle Rigley and Stephen Hill.

Shaw had top marksmen Dominic Rekowski to thank for their 6-2 win over Stratton Juniors A as he helped himself to four more goals. Ross Lowe and James Evans completed the scoring, Aaron Kharaud and Ben Cousins replying.

It was somewhat closer at Ballards Ash where Wootton Bassett Town completed the semi-final line up with a 4-3 win over Wroughton, two each for Brett Fairclough and Stephen Edwards in this one.

Under 13 Division 1

With the cup action just two league matches were played and with the league table having been adjusted for discipline decisions concerning games at the start of the season, it gave Shrivenham & Watchfield the opportunity to go clear at the top and they duly took their chance with a 5-2 success at Liden, Nathan Hudson scoring two on his debut for Liden in this one.

Goals from Tom Finnie and Dean Uzzell gave Cricklade a 2-0 home success over Greenmeadow.

Under 13 Division 2

Highworth Juniors A went top of the table courtesy of a 5-2 home win over Marlborugh Town. Ian Carey fired a hat-trick and there was one apiece for Anthony Thomkins and Aidan New.

Lydiard Youth and Ferndale Rodbourne B shared two goals and the points, Chris Balfe scoring for Lydiard.

AFC Swindon moved into fourth place in the table with a 2-0 win at Purton.

Under 12 League Cup

Another set of quarter-final cup matches saw Division 1 leaders Highworth Juniors safely into the last four courtesy of a 11-0 away win at Penhill Allstars from Division 3. Danny Hale helped himself to five goals, Jacob Hayden (2), Joe Chapman (2), George Hughes and Bradley Hooper completing the scoring.

Another side from the top division playing lower division opponents were Stratton Juniors who hit five without reply against Wootton Bassett Town, Nathan Lee hit four of the Stratton goals, Jamie Pickford getting the other.

Four goals from David Maksymuk plus one each for Paul Johnson and Jamie Pidgeon saw Ferndale Rodbourne defeat AFC Lydiard 6-3.

The closest tie of the round saw the two Division 1 sides, Croft Juniors A and Old Town United meet up at Croft and it was the visitors who squeezed home 4-3. Two goals for George Bouverie-Brine and one each for Jake Manton and Zach Niester for Old Town, Mitchell Thomas (2) and Mark Jones for Croft.
