HEAD coach Jason Forster has urged patience ahead of the start of Chippenham’s new campaign on Saturday, insisting his side are still very much a work in progress.
The former Wales international will take charge of the first team competitively for the first time when they host Clevedon at Allington Field in their Tribute South West One West opener (3pm).
Ex-Newport Gwent Dragons flanker took over in the summer following the departure of former South African international Hentie Martens at the end of their National Three South West campaign that ended in relegation and has been impressed by the training-pitch effort he has seen from the players.
But he warned: “It doesn’t happen overnight. We’ve changed quite a few things around, in terms of getting some structure into the game and it will take time to get those things right.
“The lads have been very good in training and have grasped what we want them to do, but the proof of the pudding will come with games.
“We will need to have a bit of patience. Things are bound to go wrong and we’ll have to try and limit the mistakes and have more positives than negatives.’’ Chippenham, who will be captained by forward John Boddington, remain Wiltshire’s top-ranked side as they bid to bounce back up and Forster added: “They had a tough year last year, but towards the end, there were some good performances.
“We want to carry on in that vein in this new league, but it’s massively important we understand what we’ve got to do.’’
