CORSHAM Town booked their place in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase at the second time of asking after beating Oxford City Nomads 3-1 in a replay on Wednesday night.
Their Hellenic League opponents, who have endured a torrid start to the season, conceding 39 goals in six league defeats, shocked Mel Gingell’s side by holding them to a 1-1 draw at the Southbank on Saturday.
Corsham finally got the better of the Nomads in their first qualifying round replay, but had to come from behind after Ben Moses fired the home side into the lead just three minutes in.
Ben Moore levelled the scores in the 18th minute and Gingell’s men took the lead midway through the half courtesy of Aaron Tinson.
Jack Hopper’s corner was turned in for an own goal midway through the second-half to make it 3-1.
“That was the best we’ve played all season and the lads knew that,” said Gingell.
“We should have done the job the first time, so it was great to get through.”
Corsham will now travel to Lydeny Town on September 18 but first turn their attentions to this weekend’s clash with Ilfracombe Town - the only other unbeaten side in the Toolstation Premier League.
