WINSLEY: WINSLEY'S game at Nailsea was suspended for 40 minutes after a collision in the field left Nailsea player Richard Morris needing hospital treatment.
Nine overs of the Winsley innings had passed when Morris and bowler Russell Baker collided trying to catch the same ball.
Baker's knee rammed into the base of Morris' back, leaving the 22-year-old with no feeling in his legs.
The stricken fielder was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken to hospital for an x-ray, which revealed bruising to his spine.
Morris missed the rest of Saturday's match, which Nailsea won by a huge margin of 232 runs. He was discharged from hospital late on Saturday night.
Nailsea captain Mark Hopkinson, who hit a career-best 152, said the injury to Morris had soured the victory for this side.
He said: "Nobody likes to see someone injured on a cricket pitch. Fortunately Richard was up and about later that night.
"Apparently he is very keen to play this Saturday but we may have to take the sensible option and give him a week off."
Winsley were without seven first team regulars, including Zimbabwe captain Terrence Duffin and former Wiltshire seamer Jon Spencer.
Nailsea amassed 319-4 in 45 overs as the young Winsley attack struggled to find a consistent line and length.
Batting with his captain, Gareth Dann (103 not out) scored his maiden century to put Nailsea in control.
Winsley closed on 87-8 having lost having lost 15 overs to rain and the injury to Morris.
Captain Andy Ellett said: "With so many players out we were expecting a bit of a hiding.
"Young Ben Strange bowled well but some of the others really struggled. They found out what first team cricket is all about."
