TROWBRIDGE sprinter Danny Talbot claimed a significant scalp on his senior Great Britain debut last weekend.

The 19-year-old for St Augustine’s Catholic College youngster finished ahead of former 100m outdoor world and Commonwealth Games champion Kim Collins , of St Kitts & Nevis, in the men’s 200m at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall.

Talbot, who studies at the University of Bath, clocked 21.39secs to finish third in the race, which was won by Germany’s former European junior champion Sebastian Ernst, with American Ryan Bailey, a sub 10-second man for the 100m outdoors in second.

Talbot told the Wiltshire Times: “It was brilliant because it was such a good experience.

“The atmosphere was was amazing and it was quite a small stadium, that holds about 2,500 people, but it was completely full.

“It wasn’t the fastest track but the times were still pretty quick. All of my friends texted me afterwards saying ‘you’ve just beaten a world champion.’’’
