SWINDON golfer Roy Lupton-Smith waited over 30 years to sink a hole-in-one and then two came along in as many weeks.

The aces were hit at Woodbridge Park Golf Club in Brinkworth - and both were on the course’s 138-yard eighth hole.

On the day of his first hole-in-one Lupton-Smith’s regular playing partners, who have both hit aces, were teasing him for being the odd one out.

Then on the eighth hole Lupton-Smith’s crisp wedge shot bounced, checked and rolled into the cup.

“It was an amazing feeling, I was ecstatic and the adrenaline was certainly pumping,” said Lupton-Smith. “Prior to that my playing partners Ray and Andy were giving me grief because I hadn’t had a hole-in-one and they both have. But we got to the eighth hole and I hit a wedge into the green, it bounced, checked and trickled into the hole.

“When the ball left my club I knew I had hit a good shot. I’d waited over 34 years for a hole-in-one having hit the pin, the flag and trickled it near the cup but it had never gone in until now.”

With bragging rights secured for a few rounds, Lupton-Smith returned to Woodbridge Park a few weeks later and repeated the feat at the same course and on the same hole.

Lupton-Smith, who is a corporate member at Woodbridge Park, added: “I guess you could say it was a 100million to one chance of doing it exactly the same again but that’s what happened.

“To do it a second time was absolutely unbelievable. Again I hit a wedge on the eighth and it went in.

“I went straight out and bought a EuroMillions lottery ticket because I guessed these things come in threes. I didn’t win though so I’m still waiting for that third good thing to happen to me.”

The aces were also a perfect early birthday present for Lupton-Smith who celebrated his landmark 50th birthday a few days later.
