WILTSHIRE eventing starlet Laura Collett has her sights set on tasting more success next year after bursting onto the scene in a ‘crazy’ 2011.

The 21-year-old, who is based at the Membury Estate near Marlborough, stormed to an eighth-placed finish on her Badminton debut in April.

She followed that up by finishing third behind Great Britain internationals Pippa Funnell and Piggy French at Barbury in July.

It wasn’t long before Collett followed in the footsteps of Funnell and French, being chosen to represent her country at the FEI European Eventing Championships at Luhmuhlen, Germany.

Collett is now being touted as an outsider for the Great Britain squad for London 2012 and said: “That is crazy when you think about it.

“I never thought that I would ever have any sort of chance of going to the Olympics but it’s nice to be linked with that.

“I’ll just do my best and see what happens from there.

“Badminton was definitely the highlight of the year for me, along with making my debut for Great Britain, even though I was a disappointed with how I did at the Europeans.

“I’d like to try and do ever better than I did last year at Badminton but at the same time, I wouldn’t be disappointed if I got similar results to this year.”

Collett returns to action when the indoor showjumping season begins in January.
