TROWBRIDGE-BASED Briken Motors have succeeded Bradford Building Supplies as sponsors of the Trowbridge & District League Division Two Cup.

The company was founded in 1985 by two local mechanics Brian Berrett and Ken Stevens as a traditional motor repair and service garage.

Current owner Ben Ludwell joined as a partner in 2007 when Berrett retired, then took sole control of the business in 2010.

Ludwell said: “I am a local lad with a long connection to the Trowbridge & District Football league, playing for several teams over the years.

“I’m now back with my home village club at Steeple Ashton, where my uncle also spent many years as player and secretary, and is now an established referee on the league.

“Kenny Stevens was also a well-known player in the league, so the garage definitely has a strong local football connection.

“When the opportunity arose to sponsor one of the league’s cups it made perfect sense, as it offers some valued exposure for my business, but importantly lets me put some money back into the local game at grass roots level.’’
