GEORGE Cowley, Luke Thomas and James Atherton were among the try scorers as Supermarine whitewashed Sutton Benger 29-0 in Dorset & Wilts Division 1 North.

But despite the emphatic nature of the scoreline, Supermarine director of rugby John Godsell admitted it was anything but easy.

“Teams like Sutton Benger that have nothing to lose, throw everything at you,” he said.

“It was blowing a gale and raining as well, so there were lots of knock-ons and silly passes early on, and it took us a while to break them down.

“In the end we should have put at least 40 points over them, but they tackled well.”

While Fairford enjoyed a 39-5 win at bottom club Bath Saracens, Minety continued their chase of Supermarine with a 12-0 victory at Avonvale in the driving rain.

With 10 minutes played, Jonty Messer collected a chip and crossed the whitewash, with Luke Radcliffe converting.

It was not until late in the game that the second try came, when wing Robin Greenway beat his marker and touched down out wide.

Meanwhile, Minety 2nds were defeated 13-11 by Swindon College Old Boys 3rds, with flanker Jake Norman scoring their only try.

Cricklade were comfortable 35-8 winners at Swindon 3rds in Dorset & Wilts 2 North.

  • SUPERMARINE Ladies picked up a bonus point win courtesy of a 30-12 win over Reading.

Natalie Williams converted a penalty and flanker Amelia Buckland-Hurry fought through to score, before Reading replied with a converted try of their own.

After the break Supermarine outside-centre Candy Inskip touched down, before Reading got their second try.

Number eight Claire Chard then scored two tries, one of which was converted by Williams, while Amelia Buckland-Hurry also scored a second.

  • SWINDON Under 15s were 37-0 up at half time against Calne. They went on to cross the whitewash seven more times in the second half and won 78-0.
