A REDUCED league programme in Division Two saw the top three teams in action with the match of the day being at Whaddon Lane, Hilperton.

Second-placed North Bradley hosted a Warminster Town Reserves side who went into the game knowing that a win was required for them to keep their slim chances of finishing in the top two alive. Warminster were unable to deliver and a 3-0 loss saw them give Bradley the initiative in the battle for second place and Chris Carr’s side will be hoping that their arch rivals slip up in the title run in giving them the chance a top spot.

Neither team was able to find an opening in a first half that was held up for 20 minutes following a serious injury to Warminster’s Jayson Stokes. Bradley’s Dave Percival thought he had won a penalty when he was bundled over in the area but his appeals were turned down and with neither teams able to test either keeper it remained goalless. The opening goal in the second period was always going to be important and once Shaun Percival had put Bradley ahead from a spectacular free kick they had Warminster on the ropes.

Shaun Percival added his and Bradley’s second when he latched onto a diagonal ball and volleyed it back across the face of goal and into the top corner of the net for another memorable strike that made it 2-0.

Bradley sealed the points when Dave Percival set up Paul Gittins who after scoring goals for fun for his Sunday side finally found the net for the first time on a Saturday.

The only downside for Bradley was they had Nathan Flower sent off along with Warminster’s Harry Garrett towards the end of the game.

Boomsbury FC 10 Holt FC 1

HOLT were hoping to sign of their league programme with a win away at leaders Boomsbury, but like the previous three meeting of the sides, it was Ben Howe’s Boomsbury who collected maximum points.

Howe’s men chalked up their best ever win over Stuart Faint’s side with a 10-1 success which leaves them two wins away from securing back to back title after winning the third division by a country mile last term.

Boomsbury may have made a promising start to the game with top scorer Rueben Spong putting them in front in the 15th minute, but they were pegged back a minute later with the goal of the game that saw Bradley Godridge unleash a 35 yard thunderbolt to restore parity for Holt.

Boomsbury regained the lead on 20 minutes thanks to a second from Reuben Spong, but after that Boomsbury were shocking and it needed a half time team talk and the hairdryer treatment from Howe to get his team firing again.

The second saw a vintage performance from the leaders who were inspired by substitutes Scott Askew and Dan Dominy.

Pete Spong scored an early third for Boomsbury and after that the floodgates opened, Askew was at his best scoring a hat trick, two more goals from Reuben Spong took his tally for the afternoon to four.

Richie Bliha headed home from a corner and the rout was completed by Dominy whose goal saw him cap a fine display.
