TROWBRIDGE bowler Graham Shadwell was beaten in the semi-finals of the National Indoor Championship singles at Nottingham this afternoon, writes DAVE EATON.

The Wiltshire bowler went down 21-18 to England junior international and reigning U25 champion Perry Martin (Swale, Sittingbourne, Kent) in an absorbing 23-end semi that lasted just over two hours and 10 minutes.

The scores were tied 4-4 after three ends but then it was nip and tuck for the next nine as Shadwell edge ahead 11-10 after the 12th end.

He moved three shots clear at 14-11 (15 ends) and 16-13 up at 17 ends.

The Kent youngster Martin then fought back to score seven shots on the next four ends to lead 20-16 and on the brink of victory.

Shadwell trailed the jack into the ditch to collect two shots on the 22nd end and cut the gap to 18-20. But Martin sealed victory on the next with a single.

Perry Martin will face Guildford's Paul Coleman (Wey Valley) in the final.

Martin went on to win the title when he beat Paul Coleman (Wey Valley, Guildford) 21-15 in the final.

He became the first player ever in the history of the English Indoor Championships to win both the men's junior singles (U25s) and senior men's singles in the same season.
