ANGLING: Etheridge on top at Chippenham

CHIPPENHAM members enjoyed top class sport in the club’s first evening match fished on the Avon at Chippenham on Monday as Gary Etheridge from Devizes carried off top prize with 19 lb 5 oz of chub and roach.
Ian Liddell of Chippenham was runner up with 13 lb 15 oz o roach with Steve Palmer of Chippenham third with 11 lb 7 oz 8 dm of roach.
Other placings: 4. John Garner Chippenham 10 lb 3 oz; 5. Kevin Rowles Devizes 8 lb 15 oz; 6. Kevin Williams Chippenham 8 lb 6 oz.
THE Bristol Avon at Melksham was in great form for last Tuesday's Avon Evening match as Kevin Rowles from Devizes won with 21 lb 7oz of tench, bream, roach and perch, drawing the golden peg which earned him £500 plus match pools of £85.
Gary Etheridge of Devizes again was runner up with 14 lb 8oz of bream and roach, followed by Richie Tomala of Melksham with 11 lb 4 oz of roach.
Other placings: 4. Mick Withy Westbury 8 lb 9 oz; 5. Jim Escott Melksham 7 lb 12 oz; 6. Alan Hillier Westbury 2 lb 7 oz.
FISH proved hard to tempt in the Calne evening match fished at Hazeland on Tuesday.
Tim Carr of Calne took top spot with 4 lb 12 oz of bream, followed by Nigel Smith, of Calne, with perch and dace weighing 4 lb 4 oz and Simon Fear, of Calne, with 2lb 14oz of dace and gudgeon.
Other placings: 4. Gary Dodson Calne & Martin Dolman Calne 1 lb 14 oz; 6. Nick Lofy Calne 1 lb 6 oz.
PETE Mills, from Chippenham, scooped top prize in last Wednesday's Trowbridge Open match with 9 lb of roach and perch.
In-form Gary Etheridge was runner up with 8 lb 10 oz of roach, followed by Vic Abbott from Bradford with 7 lb 7 oz of roach and perch.
Other placings: 4. John Atkins Trowbridge 7 lb 6 oz; 5. Colin Gittings Chippenham 4 lb 14 oz; 6. Dave Baker Trowbridge 4 lb 2 oz.
WEIGHTS were below their best in the Wilts Angling Open match at Rood Ashton last Thursday evening as Pete Neate from Holt won with 45 lb 2 oz of carp.
Ian Willetts, from Bradford, was runner up with 41 lb 6 oz of carp, followed by Richard Brimble, from Westbury, with 27 lb.
Other placings: 4. Tony Gilbert Melksham 24 lb 0 oz; 5. Mark Poppleton Trowbridge 18 lb 0 oz.
SUNDAY'S Lavington match at Baldham Mill was one by Graham Pearce from Lavington with 2lb 8oz of roach, dace and gudgeon.
Ken Morris, from Devizes, took runner up spot with 1 lb of dace and gudgeon, followed by nine year old junior angler Jolson Williams with 11oz of dace and gudgeon.
Other placings: 4. Chris Brown Worton 5 oz; 5. Jim Escott Melksham 4 oz 8 dm.
THE inter club event between Thornbury and Airsprung on the Bristol Avon at Saltford on Sunday saw Thornbury take team honours with 13 lb 7 oz to Airsprung’s 2 lb 10 oz.
Individual honours went to Nick Fuidge, of Thornbury, with 8 lb 4 oz of roach, followed teammate Nigel Hopkins with 2lb of roach and eels.
There was a tie for third between Andy Gabb of Thornbury and Dave Stone of Airsprung with 1 lb 10 oz of eels.
Other placings: 5. Ray Daniels Thornbury 13 oz; 6. Ron Gabb Thornbury 12 oz.
IAN Willetts took the Wilts Angling Open match at Todber Manor with 177 lb 8 oz of carp as Stuart White, from Chippenham, came second with 139 lb 9 oz of carp.
Steve Gardner from Chippenham was third with 127 lb 6 oz of carp.
