HOLT have won the Wiltshire Men’s Four Rink League for the first time in their 91-year history, writes DAVE EATON.

After finishing as runners-up in 1998 and again in 2010 it was third time lucky last Sunday at Devizes as the Wilts Area C champions thumped arch-rivals Spencer Moulton in the play-off final.

Holt took the honours on all four rinks to collect a maximum 14 points as they ran out comprehensive 87-48 victors on shots.

Moulton conceded the match with 16 ends still remaining as they trailed by a massive 39 shots.

This result was the icing on the cake for Holt men, who have enjoyed an incredible 2012 season on the team front.

They reached the National Championships at Worthing last month in a team event for the first time when qualifying for the quarter-finals in the Club Two Fours competition and only lost their match by one shot and have now lifted the top men’s county team title.

They did it in style going through the season unbeaten winning all 14 of their Area C matches and then their three play-off games.

Earlier in the day, Holt had registered two wins in the County Competitions finals at Devizes.

Keith Bailey came from 5-3 behind at five ends to finally beat Gary Morphet (Wootton Bassett) 21-18 in the Wiltshire men’s champion of champions final.

Bailey previously made an appearance in the 1993 final but lost 21-12 to Mike Tyler (Amesbury).

Wayne Simmonds, Justin Davis and Don Gray cruised to a 25-11 victory over Avon (June Dunn, Danny Holland and John Crowder) in the Bowls Wiltshire club officers triples final.

They made a flying start leading 10-3 at five ends, were 18-5 clear at 10 and leading 25-11 when a halt was called at 16 ends.
