WRAG Barn’s youngsters have been crowned Wiltshire Junior Champions after beating the Manor House in the final at High Post Golf Club.
Both reached the final after topping their respective leagues - Wrag Barn winning the Moonraker League and Manor House clinching the Whitehorse League.
Manor House took the early advantage in the six-a-side matchplay final when Jamie Jobbins and Don Patton beat Matt Mumford and Katie Warren.
Kendle McCrossan, Max Mulcock and Lewis Ward then all recorded wins for Wrag to edge the Highworth -based club in front in the match.
The final match of the day saw Wrag Barn’s Jack Seaman take on Nick James and they were all square going into the 18th.
Both drove the fairway and hit the green under regulation. Seaman left his putt inches from the hole, leaving James needing to sink his putt to force a sudden death play-off. James missed giving Wrag Barn a 7-5 victory.
Junior organiser Richard Ward was delighted with his team’s effort, saying: “This is a great achievement for Wrag Barn GC and is true testament to all those involved with the Junior Section.
“The junior section receives great support from the owners, management, Pro team and members of Wrag Barn GC and we are so proud that we have won with this title for the club.
“At Wrag Barn we have a large number of junior golfers, all pushing for a place in our team. Matt Mumford, junior captain, deserves an awful amount of credit as it has been his thoughtful and considered approach to team selection that has been the foundation of our success.
“We have used a squad of 10 players over the season: Matt Mumford (capt), Katie Warren, Kendle McCrossan, Jack Seaman, Max Drayton, Max Mulcock, Courtney Boyes, Ross Loveridge, Tom Walsham and Lewis Ward, all off whom have contributed to our achievement.”
