RUGBY: Calne 24 Avonvale 15
10:00am Wednesday 19th September 2012 in Sport
CALNE’s quick-fire start in the first half paved the way for victory in their Dorset & Wilts One North clash.
Rhys Taylor converted an early penalty shot before wingers Sam Chambers and Mark McAlonan made yards to set up a five-yard scrum which allowed number eight Jimbo Morten to drive over, Taylor converting.
Excellent support work from flankers Chris McAlonan and Craig Harkess backed up carries from Pete Brownlie and Bruce Harper, Taylor adding another penalty for a 16-0 lead.
Chris McAlonan ended the half in the sin-bin, allowing the visitors to kick a penalty before half time.
Avonvale scored two tries and a penalty to another Calne penalty to cut the gap to 19-15, but big defensive efforts by Matt Kelly and Dave Evans kept the visitors at bay.
And in the final 10 minutes Taylor stole the bonus point away from the visitors with Calne’s final try.
