BOWLS: Corbett goes out in style
6:00am Saturday 22nd September 2012 in Sport
JUNE Corbett brought her 2012 Wiltshire Ladies presidential outdoor reign to an end in fine style.
She led Wiltshire Ladies to a very comfortable 32-shot win in the annual end of season showdown against the county men which was played this year on her own green at Town Gardens.
The Wiltshire Ladies representative side, in their last match of the 2012 campaign, took the plaudits as they ran-out 138-106 victors.
They won with ease on four of the six rinks and only lost by two shots on another as Margaret Annetts’ rink, who had led throughout their match, dropped a six on their 21st and final end.
June Corbett won the battle of the presidents by leading her rink to a 27-13 success over men’s president Colin Shepherd’s rink, skipped by John Lucas.
The rinks skipped by county ladies secretary Babs Salter (Wroughton ), Sue Burgess and Mary Buckle all recorded good wins for the ladies.
And Corbett also had the satisfaction in her last county ladies match as president of skipping the ladies highest winning rink to a 14-shot success, two better than Wroughton’s Babs Salter.
However, for men’s president Colin Shepherd (Amesbury) it was a highly unsatisfactory finish to his set of friendly games throughout the season as his men’s representative team had been routed the previous day losing 144-88 to Essex at Maidenhead.
