HOCKEY: Osbourne’s treble is in vain

MARLBOROUGH were given a tough introduction to life in the revamped Davis Wood League Championship division as Robinsons A hit back to win 7-4 in their league opener.
The Bristol side were first to score from a short corner, but that jolted the home side into life.
They levelled shortly afterwards when Matt Osbourne finished deftly from an unlikely angle.
Osbourne scored in similar fashion soon afterwards after sharp work by Will Seward and skipper Rich Holman.
However, before the 20-minute mark, Robinsons were level.
Osbourne then completed his hat-trick with another bursting run and finish and midfield starlet Seward capped a superb first-half performance with a mazy dribble and goal to make it 4-2 at half time Two quick goals after half time swung the match in the away side’s favour. and with Marlborough reeling, they took the lead with a scrappy goal.
A sixth goal followed, prompting Marlborough to go on all-out attack.
But they missed several short corner opportunities and a seventh goal put paid to their hopes of a comeback.
