10:38pm

Robins boss Alun Rossiter believes his side's lead should be bigger, but is not too down-hearted by the result.

Alun Rossiter

ALUN ROSSITER

“The lead should have been more because we made some silly mistakes, but it is not over yet by a long shot,” he said.

“This is a final and it is in the balance, although it is closer than we really wanted after the tacticals got them back into it.

“We were in point-scoring positions and we got sloppy, and we can’t do that at Wimborne Road.

“I am not too despondent but we have to make sure we don’t make the same mistakes again.”

9:28pm

Heat 15: Ward, Kildemand, Andersen, Holder, 68.77 (51-44)

Ward is away. Brilliant blocking job by Andersen on Holder.

9:10pm

Heat 14 (re-run): Kasprzak, Stead, Mastez (R), Alden (FX), 68.89

Alden clips Kasprzak on bend one and is excluded. What a comeback this could be for the Pirates. Poole on a 5-1 on the re-run, only for Masters to retire.

9:01pm

Heat 13: Ward, Andersen, Kasprzak, Batchelor, 68.93 (46-38)

Great battle between the top two. Ward just has too much speed in the end for the Robins man.

8:55pm

Heat 12: Holder, Kildemand, Alden, Masters, 68.52 (44-34)

Class from Holder. Masters didn't get near the Robins pair.

8:50pm

Heat 11 (re-run): Ward (tac), Batchelor, Kling, Lampart (FX), 68.15 (41-31)

Ward dives underneath Batchelor on the back straight and that's that. Two tactical wins in a row for the visitors.

8:35pm

Heat 10: Holder (tac), Andersen, Morris, Howarth, 67.80 (39-24)

Holder gives the visitors hope with a well-timed tactical. We all know Poole hit form late in meetings, can they do the same here?

8:34pm

8:29pm

Heat nine: Kildemand, Stead, Kasprzak, Masters, 68.30 (36-18)

The Robins duo ride a sensible race to notch up yet another 5-1.

8:22pm

Heat eight: Morris, Alden, Masters, Kling, 68.08 (31-17)

Morris goes round the top into first and Alden follows shortly after. Another 5-1 for Swindon!

8:14pm

8:13pm

Heat seven: Batchelor, Holder, Lampart, Kling, 68.17 (26-16)

From the gate.

8:10pm

Heat six: Andersen, Kasprzak, Masters, Morris, 68.23 (22-14)

Kasprzak not good enough to pip Andersen, who just about stays ahead.

8:04pm

Heat five: Ward, Kildemand, Stead, Kling, 67.37 (19-11)

Stead gated again but lost speed going into bend one. Ward flew round the outside and Stead and Kildemand later nipped past Kling.

7:59pm

7:59pm

7:59pm

Heat four: Kasprzak, Alden, Howarth, Batchelor (R), 68.30 (16-8)

Batchelor comes from nowhere and has plenty of speed to pass Kasprzak, but as he goes wide on the last bend he gets sucked into the fence. Alden had led early on.

7:50pm

Heat three: Stead, Holder, Kildemand, Masters (R), 67.80 (14-4)

Stead gates off the inside and produces a magnificent ride to keep out Holder. Masters retires to allow Kildemand into third.

7:44pm

Heat two: Alden, Lampart, Masters, Howarth, 69.14 (10-2)

Alden flies out and Lampart passes Masters mid-race on the back straight to make it a second 5-1 out of two. A dream start for the hosts.

7:40pm

7:40pm

Fortunate start there for the Robins, but nobody is complaining!

7:38pm

Heat one: Andersen, Morris, Kling, Ward, 68.58 (5-1)

Ward gates but pulls a massive locker on bend two and almost doubles back on himself, leaving the Robins to coast to a 5-1. Boom.

7:32pm

No less than four journos round the press table upstairs. Two from Swindon, two from Dorset. All even. Just like on the track. This will be a cracker.

7:25pm

I haven't seen the car park this full since the Wolves final in 2009. Massive occasion, and despite the Doyle setback, winnable for Swindon. Tackling that top three is the key.

7:24pm

The parade has started.

7:23pm

Simon Stead is desperate to play his part in bringing the Elite League title to Blunsdon to repay the Swindon fans for sticking by him during a difficult campaign.

SIMON STEAD

“I have been riding speedway in Britain for a long time now, and the Elite League title is the only thing I haven’t managed to win yet,” he said.

“I have Youth Development League titles, Conference League titles and I have won the Premier League, and the Elite League is the only one missing, so it would mean everything to me.

“Swindon has been a massive part of my life for the last four years, so if I could do it to repay the fans after the tough year I have had that would be great.

“We have such tremendous backing here and the fans have been awesome, even when we were having such a tough year last year.

"They kept coming back to support us, and they have been waiting a long time for some silverware - if I could play a part in bringing some success to the club it would mean everything.”

7:22pm

7:17pm

Captain Hans Andersen believes the camaraderie in the Swindon camp could give the Robins a vital edge as they bid to topple the Poole Pirates to be crowned Elite League champions.

Hans Andersen

HANS ANDERSEN

“It is good to be a part of a team who is in the final, and everyone is really enjoying themselves which is massive,” he said.

“We may not be the strongest team on paper, but we enjoy being in the same team and the team is full of characters.

“It is so enjoyable every time we have to come to England to race, because some riders say they don’t really want to ride here, but it is a different story with us because we enjoy being together as a bunch.

“It is more important to enjoy what you are doing than to be a good team on paper, because it lifts everyone up and everyone seems to perform a little bit better when they are enjoying themselves, myself included.

“Everyone knows it is not good to go to work if you are not enjoying it.”

Aussie Troy Batchelor believes the Robins can target the bottom end of the Pirates side this evening.

Troy Batchelor

TROY BATCHELOR

“It has been close between us this season, but they have a strong top three and we have a good one to seven,” he said.

“Steady (Simon Stead) got a maximum on Thursday and Peter (Kildemand) got a maximum in the first leg of the semi-final, so that shows exactly what everyone is capable of.

“We are a good team and we have strength just where we need it, and we are strong all the way through the team.

“If either me or Hans has a bad night then there is always someone who steps up to cover us, but if any of Poole’s top guys have a bad night, then there is no-one there.

“Either Chris or Darcy can easily have a bad night on Monday and there will be nothing Poole can do about it, and they could get hammered because they have no back up.

“If they were without Pawlicki it would be better for us, but we can only race who is there on the night so we can’t be worrying about who is going to turn up and who is not.”

6:54pm

So, just to confirm tonight's teams...

Swindon: Hans Andersen, Nick Morris, Peter Kildemand, Simon Stead, Troy Batchelor, Dawid Lampart, Seb Alden.

Poole: Darcy Ward, Ricky Kling, Chris Holder, Piotr Pawlicki r/r, Krzysztof Kasprzak, Sam Masters, Kyle Howarth.

6:49pm

Swede Seb Alden comes into the side in place of Jason Doyle this evening after the Aussie crashed in yesterday's Premier League Riders' Championship.

Alden has only ridden in three Elite League meetings for the Robins this season, but is determined to take his chance tonight.

Seb Alden

SEB ALDEN

“It was a quite a big crash, and I hope Jason is okay,” he said.

“It is bad luck for Jason, but it is great to ride in a final and if I get the chance I will take it.

“I have only ridden for Swindon three times this season so it will be a bit weird to be going into the final, but I will take my chance if it comes and I will treat it like any other meeting.

“When I have ridden for the Robins I have been happy with what I have done, and I am in pretty good form at the moment so I know I can do well.

“I have obviously been there before so I don’t have any worries about it.

“The track is a bit different now than it was before I think, but it should be okay and I can’t wait to get going.”

6:13pm

It's dry up at the Abbey Stadium at the moment and Robins co-owner Gary Patchett has told the Adver that the track is fine. We're good to go!

5:37pm

They can only do that is the meeting is on mind...

5:24pm

Weather still dubious. It just rained for a few minutes but looks OK now.

5:16pm

Robins boss Alun Rossiter does not believe the seven-day delay in getting the grand final underway will cause his side any problems.

Swindon team manager Alun Rossiter

ALUN ROSSITER

“We know what we have to do and the job is in hand,” he said.

“It is all there for us and we know what we have got to do, and it is no good us going into this and over-complicating things.

“We could have tried a few things but that complicates everything, so we have carried on doing what we have been doing.

“If it isn’t broken there is no need to fix it, and we have done well so far this season so there is no point in messing around.

“When it gets to this stage if you can’t get hungry for a final then you shouldn’t be in the sport.

“I don’t think the delay will have had any effect on how hungry the guys are for this, because more than anything they are racers.”

4:49pm

The bottom line is we can't really afford to have rain tonight. There isn't any more time left in the season to hold any more meetings and everyone's fed up of the bad weather. Let's get this on.

I know it is the same for both teams but tactical rides are being cruel to us.

Whats Tatums problem with Swindon the biast git

9:40pm Mon 15 Oct 12

Totally agree re Tatum, anybody would think that there were only 3 riders tonight and they were Poole riders. Well done to our lads, we should do away with the double helmet in the play offs. We now need PMA for Wednesday (positive mental attitude) so come on Rosco gee up the lads and lets take the title and the silverware. Good luck to the team

10:16pm Mon 15 Oct 12

Same again Wednesday hit them hard in the first few races and don't get too far up then grind out shared heats. Heats 13 and 15 could go 10-2 to them at Poole so we need to be a few points up by then to stand any chance. Its alright being top heavy but they are lacking back up riders and 3-3's ain't no good to them. Our record at Poole is not too bad this season and we need to just up our game another 10% to 15%. Chucked some points away tonight when we should have settled for the placings but they gave their all so well done Robins. I disliked the way Holder and Wards bikes were being lent out tonight.

Obviously, as a Robins fan, i'm not impressed with that tactical rule! Its akin to Manchester United going 5 goals up then, because of that, having to play 30 minutes without a goal keeper so that the other side has a chance!
Hardly the way to find out which is the better side!
That being said we did counter their first tac ride well but Poole did keep chipping away so credit to them for that.
How nice would it have been though to take a 20 point lead to Dorset!
All to play for though, so come on lads. Swindon Needs You!
