TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Kelvin unlocks Westbury to earn Magpies a draw
1:00pm Monday 22nd October 2012 in Sport
KELVIN Lockwood turned in a brilliant individual performance for Semington Magpies with a four-goal haul that helped his team come from 3-0 and 4-2 down to claim an incredible 4-4 draw with Westbury United Reserves at a soggy Meadow Lane.
The result denied the hosts what would have been a share of second place in the Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories sponsored Trowbridge League behind Melksham Town Reserves and ahead of Boomsbury, who both had a weekend off.
Goals from Pete Ayton, Kane Scott and Marek Mistra saw Westbury race off into a 3-0 lead.
Lockwood reduced arrears for Semington and his second of the game got them to within the odd goals before Marc Lanfear regained a two-goal lead for the hosts which saw Westbury go in to the break 4-2 ahead.
Both teams knew that the first goal in the second period was always going to be important and when Lockwood scored his third of the afternoon to complete his hat-trick to get his team within touching distance it was game on.
Lockwood wasn’t finished as his fourth of the game helped his team to snatch a draw from a match that Westbury must have thought they had in the bag on more than a couple of occasions.
Freshford United 7 Trowbridge Wanderers 2
WITH just one defeat in their seven matches to date, which came away from home Freshford United were thankful that a sixth home fixture of the campaign yielded another three points for Hughie Fulton’s side who continue to turn their Brown’s Park into something of a fortress this season.
Their latest success saw them beat last term's champions Trowbridge Wanderers 7-2 with Steve Roddy stealing the show thanks to a double hat-trick.
Freshford opened up a 5-1 lead at the break with all goals being scored by Roddy, Jamie Moth scoring for Wanderers.
The second period saw Nigel Penelhum get his name on the scoresheet for Wanderers but again the star of the show was Roddy as he bagged his sixth of the game to take his tally for the season to 12 in four league outings.
Roddy wasn’t finished and he turned provider for Freshford’s seventh.
A break from the halfway line saw him play a number of one-twos with Sam Elkins before Elkins knocked the ball home to put the icing on the cake.
Seend United 3 Castle Combe 0
WITH just one win to their name from their six games to date, Castle Combe were hoping that it would have been be a case of deja-vu when they visited Seend United.
Their only points to date came against their fellow villagers who they beat 4-2 four weeks ago.
But Combe were unable to conjure up the winning formula for a second time as Seend ran out 3-0 winners to leave their guests rooted to the bottom of the pile.
A first-half goal from Luke Harfield gave Seend the lead at the interval and not long after the break his twin brother Carl headed them into a 2-0 lead.
Carl Harfield then added his second and Seend’s third with a well-struck shot from 16 yards to wrap up the points for Mike Hopkins men.
