An Olympian congratulated primary schools pupils last week who had taken part in a Merton-wide athletics competition.
Twenty two primary schools from Merton competed in the annual event at Wimbledon Park, organised by the Merton School Sport Partnership, taking part in events such as 100m, long jump, discus and javelin.
Scott Overall, an Olympic marathon runner who will be competing in this summer’s Games, was at the event to present the children with their trophies.
Nicola Ryan, school sport director, said: "We had a big opening ceremony where the children lined up and did a lap of the track to chariots of fire which they really enjoyed. "The children came with all their banners that they had made from school and we had two girls from Harris Academy in Merton who sang the national anthem.
"The whole day had a really good vibe about it."
Schools were split into four groups with Poplar Primary, Hillcross, St Marks and Bishops Gilpin each taking 1st place in their group.
