JAMIE Skuse is celebrating after finally clinching the South West Premier Motocross Championship title last weekend.

The 24-year-old, who lives in Quemerford, secured three podium finishes in the 10th and final round of the series at Ladram Bay in Devon to see off the challenge of Tiverton’s Luke Hill by just 12 points.

Skuse, who has spent this season racing for Rob Hooper’s Apico Suzuki team, was thrilled to get his hands on the South West series trophy after injury forced him to miss out on the top spot in last year’s competition.

“I’ve been racing in the South West series for six years now and last year, I had a fall and broke my collarbone, meaning I missed the last two rounds,” said Skuse, who works as agricultural engineer for Webcox Engineering .

“I could have won last time but this year went to plan and I’m really happy.

“I’ve been racing since I was six-years-old but I always used to be a bit of a privateer and do things on my own before I had the chance to join my team midway through last season.

“People have been asking me already if I’m going to come back next year to defend the title, so I think that I probably will do that.

“I’ve done a few rounds of the British championship this year too and I’d love to try and do some more if those next season because that’s a big step up.”
