AN UNCHANGED Westbury line-up helped them to their first victory in a while at the Folly Lane home of their local rivals.

Westbury started well and after prop Daniel Haines, who was man of the match alongside fellow front rower had forced his opposite prop to stand up in a scrum and concede a penalty, the ever-reliable boot of Nigel Kershaw drew first blood and gave the visitors a 3-0 lead.

Westbury, although dominating the set piece, began to make errors and weren’t able to take advantage of their dominance.

Warminster took advantage of two of the penalty opportunities conceded, Jason Sprangle taking the lead 6-3.

Westbury then introduced replacement Isoa Vulagirua who added energy.

The ball was spun wide to Danny Gould, who had moved to outside centre and he beat his opposite man but was held up over the line.

The Westbury scrum again caused Warminster to concede a penalty and Kershaw drew the scores level before half time.

The second half followed a similar path, with Westbury controlling the set piece and territory but unable to find the final pass.

They then were reduced to 14 men when Gareth Vaughan was sent to the sin bin, but undeterred, Westbury’s defence remained solid and they were able to keep Warminster at bay in his absence.

The visitors finally got their reward when the Veteran second row Vaughan received a short pass and powered over the line from five metres.
