IT’S less a case of Melksham versus Highworth and more Western League against Hellenic League on Saturday - that’s according to Highworth boss John Fisher.

The sides clash in the last 16 of the Wiltshire Senior Cup at the Conigre in a rare match-up between two teams at the same level.

And Fisher is looking forward to the trip south as he aims to redress a balance that he says Hellenic sides are on the wrong end of.

“The Wilts Senior Cup has always been a competition between Hellenic League and Western League sides as to who’s the best,” he said.

“It’s always the same, never changes. Quite truthfully the Western League sides have come out on top.

“We’ll hope to turn that round on Saturday and we certainly go into it full of confidence as we’ve won three of the last four games, so there’s no excuses.

“It’s one we’re looking to win but it’s about who comes out on the day, you wouldn’t say either side were favourites. You couldn’t call it but hopefully it’s our day.”

Fisher is without TJ Bohane and Scott Lane, who are on holiday, while Kev Tate is away as well.

Darren Smart looks set for a couple of weeks out with a hamstring problem but Russell Byrne is back from injury.

Meanwhile, Wootton Bassett also face Western League opposition in the form of Westbury, who play a tier below Melksham in Division One.

The Meadow Lane hosts have struggled in their league so far this campaign but are currently off the back of three victories on the spin.

Bassett boss Dave Turner said: “They have had a bit of a renaissance, I spoke to a couple of managers in their league and by all accounts they are a decent side.

“I’ve been told by two people that they expect them to climb the league table, so it will be a tough game up there.

“We don’t see the Wilts Senior Cup as a hindrance, we see it as a help because good cup runs only breed positivity.

“There were certainly no negatives to come out of it when we went to Dorchester (in the FA Cup).”

Shaun Terry serves the last of a three-match ban and Steve Yeardley is available again after a one-game suspension.

Turner is looking at a seven-day approach for a wide player, but nothing concrete has yet been secured.
