CALNE maintained their fine form at the top of the West of England Division Three with back-to-back victories in Bristol last weekend.

The unbeaten Wiltshire side opened up with a 62-45 success over last season’s champions Lockleaze Old Boys at St Bede’s School.

Trailing by three points at half time, fine interceptions by David Hamill and David Herring set up running guard Paul Herring to score some much-needed fast break points.

Stu Cunningham gained his confidence in attack and Ben Shuker maintained his steady rebounding which helped the Calne side to win the third period 20-9.

Man of the match was Herring (27 points) with other top scorers Stu Cunningham (10), Dave Herring (eight) and Dave Hamill (seven).

Calne followed up with a 79-28 thrashing of Totterdown Tigers on Monday.

After a slow start they took the upper hand with Ryan Burry, Paul Herring and Cunningham adding to a first period total of 26, while shutting out their hosts.

The lead allowed coach Colin Herring to give bench players a runout and, after an even second period, Tim Paget, Adam Webb and new boy Kevin Rankine moved them further clear.

Sean Preen (five points) received most valuable player with other top scorers Paul Herring (22) Webb (eight), Paget (eight) and Cunningham (eight).
