FISH were hard to tempt in the Wilts Angling float only match at Eden Vale on Sunday, Frome’s Tim Martin taking 14 lb 6 oz of skimmer for victory.

Andy Pritchard, from Westbury, was runner up with 4 lb 6 oz of roach and skimmer, followed by Paul Sims, from Frome, with 3 lb 15 oz of roach and perch.

Other placings: 4. Mick Martin Trowbridge 3 lb 6 oz; 5. Pete Neate Holt 1 lb 7 oz; 6. Chris Earman Westbury 1 lb 4 oz.

WEIGHTS were fairly even in the Upper Thames Winter League match on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Marlborough as Daiwa Gordon League took team honours with 44 points followed by Devizes MG (40) and Maver Lobbys (36).

Top individual was James Carty of Devizes MG with 8 lb 12 oz of roach.

This weekend sees the start of the annual series of ever popular Christmas matches, the Airsprung event taking place on Sunday at Barton Farm.

Avon stage their event on Saturday, December 1 and on Sunday, December 2 Chippenham hold their match on the Avon at Chippenham, Lavington at the Cheverell Complex and Ridgeway on the Avon at Freshford.

Sunday December 9 sees the ever popular Bathampton Open Xmas match on the Avon at Newbridge and Calne at Hazeland.

The Calne Junior Xmas match takes place on Saturday, December 15 at Sabre Lake.
