SWINDON Harriers veterans Brian Gardner and Pete Molloy were selected to represent their respective countries in the British & Irish Masters XC Championships, which took place in Belfast recently.

Swindon-born Molloy, who was making his debut for England, was third in the Male Vet 60 category and the second English finisher.

England won the team award for the Male Vet 60 category, earning the 63-year-old an individual bronze and team gold medal as a result.

Molloy completed the eight-kilometre course in 30 minutes, four seconds.

Gardner, who hails from Airdrie, represented Scotland for the 13th year and finished fifth in the Male Vet 55 category. the 56-year-old was the second Scottish runner across the line.

The Scottish team finished second in the Male Vet 55 category, for which Gardner won team silver medal. His time, again over eight kilometres, was 28 minutes, 49 seconds.
