CHIPPENHAM Town are confident that tonight's Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division clash with AFC Totton will go ahead, despite the recent heavy rainfall to hit Wiltshire.

The Bluebirds, 2-0 winners at St Albans City on Saturday, could climb to within three points of a play-off spot with victory over the Hampshire side.

With much of the county flooded, the majority of games at Western League and local league level on Saturday were postponed, including Chippenham Park's scheduled Wiltshire league Premier Division clash with Bradford Town Reserves at Hardenhuish Park.

More rain fell overnight, but Town chairman John Applegate confirmed this morning that the match was going ahead, with no plans to hold a pitch inspection.

Bluebirds boss Nathan Rudge added: "Our pitch drains well so hopefully it will be okay.''

Town ended a run of three matches without a win as new striker Tom Knighton opened his account with a spectacular overhead kick at St Albans.

Rudge said: "It was good to get a win on the board, although to be trurthful, I don't really think we did a lot different from the previous games.

"We brought Tom in to score goals and it was a great start for him to score one like that because it wasn't an easy chance.''

Alan Griffin wrapped up the points for Chippenham with a second-half volley.
