HELLENIC LEAGUE: Fisher expects conditions to beat Highworth and Holyport

This Is Wiltshire: Highworth boss John Fisher Highworth boss John Fisher

HIGHWORTH manager John Fisher can’t see tonight’s high-stakes clash with Holyport getting the go-ahead.

The Worthians are one place above Holyport in the Hellenic Premier table, with the relegation line lying in between them.

Therefore, this evening’s clash at the Rec takes on huge significance but Fisher does not believe it will even get underway due to poor weather.

“It won’t be on because I’d imagine the pitch will be completely knackered, it wasn’t great after the game (against Kidlington) on Saturday,” he said.

“Common sense says it will be off and I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t, but hopefully it will be on.”

Highworth notched up a priceless three points against Kidlington on Saturday as they took a 4-3 victory.

The availability of the dual-registered TJ Bohane - now back at Shortwood after leaving Supermarine recently - had a noticeable impact.

Fisher added: “TJ was available as the Shortwood game was off and he made a difference to us because he scored two and made the fourth, so it worked out quite well.

“Quite truthfully it could have been a couple more. It wasn’t one of the prettiest games you’ll see but I don’t worry about that any more.

“We played well against Ardley and Marlow and got nothing, and it was a bit scrappy on Saturday but we got what we needed and that was three points.”

Other than Bohane, who has Shortwood commitments, Fisher has a full squad for tonight’s game.

Meanwhile, two of our local sides are in action in the Southern League.

Cirencester travel to Merthyr in Division One South & West as they aim to end their run of eight games without a win.

In the Southern Premier, draw specialists Chippenham make the trip to Cambridge.
