CRICKLADE kept up their challenge at the top of Dorset & Wilts 2 North with a routine 31-0 victory over rock bottom Westbury 2nds.

The home side started off quickly and were rewarded with quick points thanks to scores from Callum Watkins, Nathan Waite and Mike Murray, but as Westbury eased themselves into the game it became a lot more competitive.

The visiting forwards did an impressive job of holding onto the ball, but Cricklade eventually managed to extend their lead before the break as prop Wayne Anderson muscled through the line and out-paced the chasers to touch down. Waite converted to make it 26-0 at half-time.

Westbury began the second period in bullish form and burst out the traps to threaten the Cricklade line on a number of occasions, but the home side’s defence stood firm to keep their lead intact.

Indeed they could have increased their advantage had a number of stray passes at vital time went to ground, but they did soon get it right as Nick Bond scuttled over on the right to complete an impressive afternoon.
