MALMESBURY Victoria have sought help from the Football Association after the wet winter weather that has seen them miss out on more than a month’s worth of income.

The Hellenic League outfit haven’t hosted a match at their Flying Monk Ground, which is regularly flooded by the nearby River Avon, since December 8.

Before that, their clubhouse was damaged when the heavy rainfall began.

Tuesday’s cup tie against Maidenhead United Reserves was postponed, this time due to a frozen surface, and secretary Julie Exton says her club have taken a huge hit.

“It’s been really difficult because we haven’t had a game for so long and we obviously don’t get the income from matches. We also haven’t been able to host skittles in the clubhouse either,” said Exton.

“Luckily, we managed to have a shower pump replaced through the Malmesbury Flood Appeal – that was damaged during the flooding.

“But we’ve also had to pay for new plasterboards, wall plastering and tiles in the clubhouse. We’ve probably lost around £3,000 and that’s a lot of money for a small club.

“We’ve written to the FA to see if there’s anything they can do, but we really just need some help.”

First team boss Simon Winstone added: “The football isn’t even really the most important part of it all – it’s the whole club that matters. The chairman (Phil Exton), the secretary and all the people here have all had to work really hard to keep us going.”
