HELLENIC LEAGUE: Fisher fears further weather chaos
HIGHWORTH boss John Fisher reckons consecutive Saturday games could be wiped out by the cold weather.
But the Elms chief is not too concerned about that, with his side having played 23 Hellenic Premier matches, leaving them well up on their fixtures.
Highworth's trip to Abingdon on Saturday was postponed due to the cold snap and now Fisher fears for the home clash with Binfield at the Elms this coming weekend “Looking at the weather, I think it's going to be a struggle for next week,” he said.
“Luckily for us, we've been playing nearly every Saturday all season so we've kept ticking over.
“We won't be training this week because everywhere is booked up, but that's something we'll have to look at for next week.”
Shrivenham's fixture with visiting Ardley also failed to get the go-ahead on Saturday while there was also a complete whiteout in Division One West.
Wootton Bassett boss Dave Turner got his wish that his side's home game with Old Woodstock would be off, meaning he didn't miss a game while away on holiday in Macedonia.
New College had their game at Lambourn called off with a day to spare and boss Rob Hopkins has fewer concerns about training facilities than other local managers.
“We had to cancel training on Friday because the college was closed,” he revealed.
“But I think the college will be open again on Monday so we'll at least have the lads training in preparation for next week.
“We'll just train indoors this week and see how we go.”
Elsewhere, Malmesbury have still only played two games since November 18 as bad weather continues to ravage their season, with their game against North Leigh Reserves called off early.
The matches between Fairford and Hook Norton, as well as Purton and Clanfield, suffered the same fate.
Cricklade were scheduled to be in action in the quarter-final of the Wilts Senior Cup at Shrewton, but snow intervened.
Attention will now turn to midweek fixtures in the Hellenic League, but with the cold weather set to continue, it is unlikely that many, if any, matches will be played.
