JOHN Jackson gave himself a pre-World Championships boost by finishing tied sixth in the men's four-man event at the eighth World Cup meeting of the season in Austria today.

Trowbridge pilot Jackson, who completed only one run when finishing down in 21st with two-man partner - the former Olympic sprinter Craig Pickering - yesterday, finished level with the Germany 3 bob and under four tenths of a second off the podium in Igls.

Jackson's crew, including Stuart Benson, Bruce Tasker and Joel Fearon, clocked 52 seconds flat for their opening outing and were slightly quicker second time out, in 51.89.

The result continued Jackson's fine form with the larger crew, who have only been outside the top 10 once in eight World Cup meetings this season.

They move on to the World Championships in St Moritz, Switzerland, this week.
