TROWBRIDGE made hard work of seeing off their determined visitors in Southern Counties South.

The home side were hampered just before the kick off when Adam Sullivan pulled up with a knee injury in the pre-match warm-up, Justin Reid coming off the bench to deputise.

Trowbridge struggled to adapt to the conditions in the early stages of the game, with the visitors enjoying the majority of the possession.

However, once they got onto their stride, the home side scored one of the best tries seen at Green Lane this season.

Instead of taking the safe option and kicking for touch, the Trowbridge forwards worked the ball out their own 22 and released the three-quarters.

Good work from Ashley Chalk and Aaron Bray was finished off by Lewis Jordan who crossed near the posts, Lloyd Davis converting.

A second try came after a period of forward pressure which saw Reid forced over the line for the touchdown, the conversion attempt hitting the post.

Bassett came more into the match in the second half and a period of pressure on the Trowbridge line saw two home players sin-binned for infringements.

However playing with 13 men seemed to galvanise the Green Lane outfit.

The defence held the visitors’ pressure, with Dave Martin, Barry Coombs and Sam Edwards putting in outstanding performances whilst the pack was down to six men.

Their efforts paid dividends as they worked the ball out of the home half and Reid scored his second try, again converted by Davis.

Once Trowbridge were back to full strength the forwards took control and dominated possession for the remainder of the game, although Bassett denied them a bonus-point score.
