CORSHAM Town are counting the cost of the hefty suspension handed to midfielder Ryan Tyrell, who faces an additional ten-match ban for a sending off last year.

Tyrell was shown a red card for an alleged headbutt in Corsham’s 3-0 loss to Winterbourne United in November but the authorities decided that his initial three-match ban was insufficient, now banning him for an extra ten games.

“He missed Tuesday night and last Saturday so he’s got eight games to go,” said Corsham manager Trevor Rawlings.

“He did move his head towards someone in that Winterbourne game and the player went down to get him sent off, as most people would.

“But the referee’s report said that he had to go off injured and that wasn’t what happened at all. He was just subbed off later in the game.

“We’ve got an injury crisis at the moment and we had seven first-team players missing in our last game.”

On Tuesday, Corsham late goals from Liam Brown and Dan King denied struggling local rivals Devizes Town a vital three points at Nursteed Road.

Mark Love’s Devizes had taken the lead when debutant keeper Martin Mitchell’s kick went all the way into the Corsham net, via a deflection off Jamie Moss.

Danny Hale pounced to make it 2-0 but Steve Bunting was shown a second yellow card before the visitors’ late comeback.

“The second yellow card was harsh and it led to what happened – it was an absolute nightmare,” said Devizes assistant Justin Webster.

Last Saturday, King netted twice while Kent Kauppinen also scored as Corsham pulled off another rousing derby comeback at Warminster Town, recovering from 3-0 down to snatch a point in a 3-3 draw.
