CHIPPENHAM Town’s Ashley Williams has every faith that the Bluebirds will bounce back from a testing week at Hardenhuish Park.

Williams was part of the side that went through the ringer on Saturday as they suffered a dismal 7-1 defeat to Bideford before being beaten at home on Tuesday night by high-flying Hemel Hempstead Town.

The Bluebirds salvaged some pride in midweek with a rousing display, pushing Hemel all the way and Williams has promised that he and his teammates will make the fans proud again.

“In the dressing room, there’s nothing that’s changed in our opinion,” said the defender.

“At the end of the day, it’s still the same bunch of lads that were here at the start of the season and we’ve still got the same philosophy in terms of how we want to try and play.

“On Saturday, what could go wrong did go wrong in the 90 minutes. That’s the worst game I think I’ve ever been involved in at this football club and it’s probably the worst they’ve seen for the last ten years.

“Saturday’s gone now and Tuesday was all about the reaction and I think we gave one. That was our ambition after we had a lengthy chat in the dressing room on Saturday.

“We were 2-0 down in the first few minutes and when things aren’t going for you, those kind of things happen.

“We could have quite easily laid down and thought ‘here we go again’ but we didn’t – the boys rolled their sleeves up and we grafted and worked hard.

“I think that a lot of the boys have picked themselves back up and dusted themselves down now.

“We know what it takes to win a game of football and it’s not just the eleven of us on the pitch but it takes the whole squad, the staff and everybody watching. We don’t want anyone to give up on us.

“It’s one awful game and we’ve had a run of games where we haven’t quite been at it – we all know that because we’ve got an honest bunch of lads in the dressing room.

“We’ve got no cheaters and people always turn up regularly for training, which does go a long way.

“We know we’re in a sticky patch at the moment and it’s only us that can dig ourselves out but trust me, we will.”
