BLUEBIRDS winger James Guthrie says that his side were gutted not to take all three points at Bedford Town last weekend.

Chippenham travelled to the New Eyrie and despite going down to ten men when Adie Harris picked up his second sending off in three games, were on the verge of pulling off a fine away victory until they were denied by an injury-time goal from the hosts’ Steve Kinniburgh.

Guthrie, who notched up his first goal of the season against Hemel Hempstead Town last week, says that the Bluebirds are looking to regain their confidence after two home defeats last week but thinks that they can take heart with a result away from home.

“In the last few games, we’ve been conceding goals right at the start of games but I think that earlier in the season, we were the ones scoring a few early goals – it was pretty good to do that on Saturday,” said the Chippenham winger.

“We obviously lost Adie and then we did start to drop off a bit as the game went on. They were chucking balls into the box and I couldn’t see what happened for the penalty at the end but I guess the pressure told.

“We would have been happy with a point before the game because they’re quite high up the table and they’ve been doing well but when we got in the changing room, we were pretty disappointed about it.

“We wanted to go on a run but it hasn’t happened for us. The Bideford game was a nightmare but we played well against Hemel and we’ve got a point last weekend.

“It’s all just little things that have gone against us so all we can do is keep going and pick up as many points as we can.”

Hosts Bedford had only conceded once in their last five outings but the Bluebirds got off to a perfect start by making the most of some uncharacteristically slack defending by the home side.

Just two minutes in, Scott Lye worked himself into space in the area and crossed for Dean Griffiths, who made no mistake.

Ben John wasn’t called to make his first save until the 75th minute but the turning point came with ten minutes left to play when Harris was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Even after being reduced to ten men, Chippenham hit the bar through Scott but in injury time, the hosts found a way through the Bluebirds’ stubborn defence when Jim Rollo was adjudged to have tugged down Josh Beech in the area.

Eugene Libertucci’s spot-kick was parried by John but Kinniburgh was on hand to score the rebound from a tight angle
