DEVIZES team boss Stuart Hadden says that his side are brimming with confidence ahead of a pivotal weekend in the Southern Counties South title race.

The table-topping Saddlebacks stretched their lead to eight points with a thumping 48-0 win over Oakmedians last Saturday and this weekend, they make the trip to Dorset for a summit battle with second-placed Sherborne.

Meanwhile, third-placed Trowbridge are at home to fourth-placed Wimborne and although fortune could favour Devizes’ promotion push, Hadden is hoping that his players will remain focussed on the task in hand.

“It’s definitely a big weekend but I’m hoping that we’re alert and we’re got our finger on the pulse for our game,” said Hadden.

“We’re really high on confidence but we need to make sure that we play with the same tempo that we have been doing recently and don’t give the other side a chance to relax.

“We’ve been playing well and we’ve picked up seven or eight bonus points on the trot but it’s important that we keep our feet on the ground.

“We lost 7-6 to Trowbridge earlier in the season but I thought that we were the better side on the day – we pounded their line and fair play to them for holding out.

“We went to Wimborne and won on the opening day of the season and then lost to them in cup so that one is 1-1 at the moment.

“We don’t want any of those sides to catch us.”
